What a UK TV Router Does for Sky on Demand, Live UK TV and Catch Up Tv from the internet abroad:

A UK TV Router simply plugs into the back of of your exsisting router and gives you a new wireless or wired network in your home which carries a UK IP address.

It's a very simple DIY install which takes about 5 minutes. We supply instructions, telephone & remote help.

So far we have a 100% success record, no one has ever sent one back.

This then allows you to connect any device you would in the UK and use any of the fantastic internet TV services which you can in the UK from their original source. Both Live TV and Catch Up are available.

Below are a selection of the ways you can get fantastic UK TV in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal even Morocco via the internet.

Sky On Demand:

Sky on Demand Includes:

BBC iplayer, ITV player, 4oD, Sky Store for Movies and much more, all on your Big Screen TV.

This is a fantastic service, it costs very little if you already subscribe to Sky and needs a bit of explaining, so please bear with me and read through to the end.

This also solves the problem of how to watch programmes from channels on which you have the “no satellite signal” message.

So for those who have lost their BBC, ITV, Freesat channels since the Astra 2E switch over happened, this will allow you to watch all of your favourite programmes on catch up.

Everything comes from the original broadcasters’ source, i.e. no second-hand retransmission, in poor quality via dubious websites/servers.

As always we only supply the same original equipment you would use if you were in the UK but we have an additional service which makes it all work here in Spain.

Sky on Demand requires a Sky subscription, a Sky+ HD box and a dish with a satellite signal on some Sky channels, as long as you can access the on-screen TV guide it will work perfectly.

You may already have this, but If not we can arrange it for you. You also require broadband internet, although the speed of your internet connection is not too important for this option.

It is very important to understand that the On Demand service downloads the programmes you choose to your planner via the internet and stores them on the inbuilt hard drive for you to view at your leisure.

This means that even if you have “no satellite signal” on the original channel via the satellite i.e. Sky Movies, BBC, ITV, Freesat, etc. it doesn’t matter, as long as you have the Sky “TV Guide” and the internet you can watch almost anything which is in your package via on demand.

A quick example of what you can do: This morning it took me 15 minutes to peruse and select 6 programmes that we might fancy watching over the weekend, when I looked an hour or so later they were all available to watch from the planner.

This is not “streaming” - all other internet TV services depend on streaming which takes some time to buffer then allows you to start watching. The problem with streaming is that it can’t give you the same quality and it also tends to stop at high internet usage times. Not so with Sky on Demand as irrespective of the internet speed, the programmes will download and save on your box, so when you choose to watch you always get the original perfect quality.

I want to watch it now!  - Yes you can:

Normally about 30 seconds to a 1 minute after you select your chosen programme it will appear as “available” and you can watch it while it is still downloading. (This one does depend on your internet speed)

This really is watching what you want when you want. The quality is fantastic both in SD and HD.

What you get:

Free i.e. as part of your existing Sky package:

(The minimum Sky package required is entertainment @ £21.50/month)

  • BBC iplayer
  • ITV player
  • 4oD
  • Demand Five
  • Sky Catch Up: on many of the Sky channels in your existing package i.e. Sky TV (shows from Sky1, Sky Atlantic, etc) Sky Sports, Sky Movies, Comedy Central, Universal, Syfy, Fox, TLC, MTV, E!, Lifetime, Discovery, Nat Geo, History, CI, Cartoon Network,  Disney and most of the other kids channels.

Note: you only get catch up on the channels included in your package i.e. if you don’t have sports on your package you can’t watch them in catch up either.

Box Sets:

These are entire series with every episode available on demand.  They include the following categories:  Drama, Comedy, Sci-fi, Music and Arts, Entertainment, Documentaries and Nature.

(ITV seems to work with the minimum package but all the others require you to have Sky HD package, costing from an additional £5.50/month (dependant on your original package)

Sky Movies:

If you have movies in your package you can download to your planner and watch when you want.

Sky Store:

This allows you to choose movies to rent from 99p to £3.49 for the latest releases  (12 months before they appear on Netflix).  Note: You do not need to subscribe to Sky movies to use this service.

Freesat & Freetime:

Very important, for this you need internet speed of 3mbps or higher.

Fresat Freetime & Catch Up TV from Freesat require a  Freesat box and a dish with a satellite signal on some channels, as long as you can access the on-screen TV guide and see what's on now and next, it will work perfectly.

Freesat have a new all singing all dancing TV Guide called Freetime, which allows you to wind back the TV Guide 1 week on 24 channels so you can go back and watch anything you missed. It also allows you to use the on demand players, BBC iplayer, ITV player, 4OD and Five on demand. To find out more click here and watch the video (all the way to the end even though they repeat themselves a bit in the middle).

On non Freetime compatible boxes you can still use the BBC iplayer and ITV player on all boxes and some will also allow 4oD and five on demand. To check your Freesat box compatability click here

Smart TVs:

Once you have your UK TV Router you can reset the country location of your TV and access the UK Apps for iplayer etc. This is relatively simple - you just connect your TV to the router either via wifi or with an ethernet cable.

You then need to re-install the TV from the very first start up menu where it asks you for your location, to do this the best way to find the instructions is to go on Google and search something like "TV manufactures name, model nº, reset TV location". It's as if you bought your TV in Spain and relocated to the UK taking your TV with you and wanted to set it up there.

Watching Live TV on Your TV from the Internet:

Very important, for this you need internet speed of 3mbps or higher.

There are various ways to do this, you do not need any satellite dish, receiver or TV aerial to do this.

With a laptop with an HDMI out connection you can watch BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC 3, BBC 4, BBC News, BBC Parliament, ITV1,  ITV2, ITV 3 & ITV 4.

ChromeCast from Google @ 35€ on Amazon allows you to watch BBC LIVE TV (Formula 1, Wimbledon, The Open, EastEnders, Masterchef etc), BBC iplayer, Netflix & Youtube on your big screen TV using your Smart phone, tablet, ipad as the remote control. This is very easy to set up, it's about the size of a cigarette lighter and plugs into an HDMI socket on your TV. You then download the ChromeCast app and off you go.

At the time of writing this,  only the above mentioned services have included the casting icon on their sites.  It only arrived in Europe in March 2014, I would imagine that as time goes on more and more services such as ITV Player, 4oD etc will include the casting icon.

Imagine arriving at your property in Spain, taking your phone out of your pocket or your ipad or laptop out of your bag and putting fantastic UK TV on your TV screen!  With a UK TV Router - YOU CAN!

Watching Live TV or listening to Live Radio on other Devices from the Internet:

You can watch live TV or listen live to the radio on pretty much any wireless device you could use were you in the UK. This includes: Android smart phones, Iphones, Ipads, Apple, PC, Lap Top and if you have the ability to connect these to your TV you get the picture on screen.
